Welcome to Travel We Will, our travel blog! This site will be a travel journal for me and a spot to share all the places we go, travel tips, deals, itineraries and more. For those of you that know me well, you are probably thinking “why is this crazy lady starting ANOTHER blog?!”
It’s why I started a separate travel Instagram account years ago. Travel is near and dear to me and it needed it’s own place. It’s also how I make our travel photo books easily on Chatbooks. When I was trying to come up with an Instagram handle years ago, I didn’t want my name in it and as you can imagine most things with “family travel” were taken. I came up with @travelwewill because it’s how I felt when Maggie was born: we WILL still travel with kids.
When I was first pregnant (about 12 years ago?!?!) I remember a sense of panic that my young, wild and free life that included a love of travel would have to end. Well the young, wild and free would 100% be going out the window but my love of travel didn’t have to.
I thought it was important to start traveling right off the bat, get used to traveling with kids and get the kids used to traveling. So I made it a point to continue to plan trips and explore the world with my little one in tow.
I think Tom thought I was crazy when I suggested we take Maggie to Italy when she was 9 months old. But I pleaded my case, explained all the reasons it would be awesome and that HE wanted to see Italy and I wanted to show him around, so “travel we will”.
Well in a flash that one little baby we were traveling with turned to 4 kids to travel with. The larger our family got the crazier some thought we were to keep traveling but the good thing about traveling with kids when they are really small: they learn HOW to travel. By the time there were 4 to travel with, the first 2 were travel pros.
After a few years of traveling with 4 we found out we’d be adding a 5th little traveler! I had no intentions of letting a our traveling circus slow down but he arrived the same week the world locked down and travel was out of the question. In 2020 we cancelled many trips, flights, opportunities to see new places and family and friends.
We wanted to be safe but were also eager to continue to see the world. We stayed home, added more to our bucket list, and slowly found safe ways to travel locally. With things looking up global health wise and vaccines all done, we decided in 2021 “travel we will”. So now, the name I came up with years ago is two fold for our crew: we will continue to travel with kids (many kids!) and we will get back out and travel safely. We hope the world continues to heal so we can continue to show our children all the wonderful places there are to see.
