Over Spring Break, we visited The Lake House on Canandaigua. It’s a spot I have been eying for a few years now as the photos I saw always looked so lovely and relaxing. I had considered it for a girls weekend or couples getaway but hadn’t found a time to visit. Then, when I realized it would be along our Spring Break road trip route, I decided we’d try it out with the kids in tow.
The Lake House on Canandaigua is Canandaigua’s premier lakefront luxury resort. It’s located in the heart of New York’s Finger Lakes region and you have lakefront access while enjoying the increible resort. We had a wonderful time there as a family and my kids truly did not want to leave. It’s a perfect summer spot but also could be enjoyed any time of year. It’s one of the few places we have ever visited that I would say I would highly recommend for any age and any type of trip. Our kids range from a toddler to a teen and all 5 enjoyed the resort. I think families with kids in high school & older could have a really nice time as well. It’s also perfect for multigenerational travel, couples trips and girls trips. Here’s why we loved the The Lake House on Canandaigua”
Lake House on Canandaigua
The Location: The Lake House on Canandaigua is located in New York’s Finger Lakes region. It was an easy drive from New Jersey and also the perfect stop en route to Niagara Falls. That’s where our final destination was going to be on Spring Break. When we left the Lake House on Canandaigua we only had about 90 minutes more to drive to get to Canada. We also loved that it was minutes from downtown Canandaigua. We enjoyed restaurants there and especially the big toy store in town!
The Rooms: The rooms at Lake House on Canandaigua are impeccably designed, bright and clean. Many of the rooms (like ours) feature very spacious, private balconies. We loved waking up to the view of the lake.
The Pool: The pool and hot tub at Lake House on Canandaigua were the highlight for my kids. After a long, cold winter… we arrived there to our first hot day of the year: 76 and sunny! We were not expecting that but knew we’d be able to swim no matter what because Lake House on Canandaigua heats their outdoor pool and hot tub year round. Both were so nice and warm and our whole family loved every minute out on the pool deck. The view from the pool is amazing: you are looking right out onto the lake. You also have an option to reserve private daybeds at the pool.
The Resort Activities: I would sum up our evening at the Lake House on Canandaigua as…. s’mores, games & old time family fun. Before dinner the kids had fun with all of the lawn games on the resort lawn. After dinner we grabbed the (free) s’mores kits from the front desk and sat around the fire by the lake. It was also really wonderful to just enjoy being on the lakefront, seeing the boats, and dreaming of coming back in the summertime.
The Food: I was so impressed with the food at The Lake House on Canandaigua. Sometimes we just eat “on site” because it’s incredibly convenient with 5 kids but this time we kept eating meals onsite because the food was so good. We ate at the Rose Tavern for dinner and for breakfast. Rose Tavern serves a rustic, seasonal menu inspired by the the Finger lakes region. They use local ingredients and everything we tried was delicious.
There’s also the Sand Bar & Pool Hut in the summer and The Library for coffee.
Also important to note: the staff at Rose Tavern was very kind and welcoming even though we were a table with 5 (not always behaved) kids. We even had a server that, on her own, chatted with my son about how she was impressed he ordered “a new food he had never tried” and she could tell he didn’t like it and didn’t want to be rude.. so she got him something else. This was next lever service and kindness!
More Resort Amenities & Activities: The Lake House on Canandaigua offers some other amazing things I hope to try on a future visit. There are daily activities that are focused around wellness. There are yoga classes, meditation, stretch classes and more. There is also a beautiful luxury spa and a picturesque sauna garden. In the summer time you can also enjoy boating activities. See, I told you I have to go back!
