Nantucket Books for Kids

A few years ago when we were planning our trip to Italy, I started collecting children’s books about the different spots we were going to visit. From fiction to Italian language books, it’s how I prepared the kids for the trip. When I was trying to think of summer reading books for all of the kids, I thought that it might be fun to start looking for books about the different spots we’d visit this summer. I will share more lists as the summer goes on, but today I have our list of Nantucket books for kids.

Some locations are easier than others of course, but it’s been fun for me to collect and even more fun to read them to kids. For the bigger kids, it’s been a lot easier to get them excited to read when they know they are reading about spots we will be visiting.

When we were visiting Nantucket, it was really cool to have the kids bring up things from their summer reading books. Sometimes I’m not so sure they are paying attention, but they must have been to know the things they did about the island!

If you visit Nantucket, you can find signed copies of many of these books. We love visiting Nantucket Bookworks where they have a whole section of Nantucket books. If you visit I am sure you’ll find more than are listed below, but these are the titles we enjoyed leading up to our trip.

Nantucket Books for Kids

  • Jenny’s Pennies
  • Nat, Nat, The Nantucket Cat
  • A Nantucket Nanny
  • What’s So Special About Nantucket
  • Tuckey The Nantucket Whale
  • Marshall A Nantucket Sea Rescue
  • Comet’s Nine Lives
  • BabyLit’s Moby Dick
  • The Fisherman and the Whale
  • Obadiah the Bold

My two oldest were really excited about my idea to read books based on where we travel so I wanted to find some chapter books and books on their level. We discovered the series “A Spooky Take from Nantucket”. We had Grammy grab 2 more in the series when she visited Nantucket late spring. They are not that scary, but more along the lines of a Magic Treehouse meets Nancy Drew (in my opinion). The kids were excited to spot a title in the series we didn’t have yet when we visited Nantucket Bookworks bookstore during our vacation.

Speaking of mysteries, I was thrilled to find out there was a Nancy Drew book that takes place on Nantucket, Nancy Drew Diaries: The Phantom of Nantucket. Of the list, this was probably my girls favorite on the list below.

Nantucket Chapter books for kids:

  • Night-Birds on Nantucket
  • Out of the Wild Night
  • Nancy Drew Diaries: The Phantom of Nantucket
  • The Ghost on Main Street
  • Sea Chest in the Attic
  • The Captain’s Return
  • Other Warren Bouton books in the A Spooky Tale from Nantucket series
  • Nantucket: A History for Kids
